Hi! I am the TJ, the baker and cake decorator behind Turquoise Tiers. I have been baking cakes (and cooking) since I was 6 years old and I have been decorating cakes since I was 15.

When I was 15, I began decorating wedding cakes for competition for 4-H and open class (going up against adults) at the county fair. My cakes have won many grand prizes at the county and state levels. I have also done several live demonstrations and live competitions!

When I was a young adult, I served as a cook at Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs, Colorado. At that time, they had their own cake decorator, a Japanese man named Soichi. Since his bakery was located just behind my work station in the kitchen, it was very convenient to pop in a hundred times a day to watch what he was decorating! I often assisted him in his cake decorating and learned a lot of unique techniques.

Nowadays, I am a homeschooling stay-at-home mom, writer (check out my blogs MeasuringFlower.com and TJsTaste.com), and home-based cake decorator.

Safety Standards

Safety is beyond important to me! I am an OCD germophobe so I wash my hands many, many times a day, and I keep all of my surfaces (especially those in the kitchen) squeaky clean.

I am also up to date with my State Food Safety food handlers certification and regularly practice commercial kitchen food safety procedures while working with food of any kind.
